A Season of Doing, Not Consuming

I have always loved books, learning, and spaces filled with knowledge (I’ve even found myself sitting in libraries on the other side of the world, completely in awe of it all.)

But this week, I realized that there comes a point where learning must turn into doing.

So, I unsubscribed from about 20 email lists.

For years, I’ve been subscribed to newsletters, coaching content, resources, and inspiration. And if you know me, you know that I don’t leave emails unread.

So every day, I’ve been opening, reading, clicking, scanning… consuming.

Learning. Saving. Processing.

But this week, as I reflected on a conversation I had with a close friend and asked myself an important question:

Am I still learning… or am I just consuming?

And the answer was clear.

I am no longer in a season of gathering.

I am in a season of doing.

Over the past few years, as I believe being a minimalist is part of my intentional living journey, I have spoken a lot about decluttering. Not just our physical clutter – like the boxes of things we never used… or the thousands of files saved on our phones… but the kind of clutter that quietly fills our lives without us even noticing.

Keeping in mind that clutter doesn’t always look like “stuff.” Sometimes clutter looks like:

  • too much information

  • too many voices

  • too many ideas

  • too many distractions

And slowly, without realizing it, we begin to consume more than we create.

As I unsubscribed from those emails, I realized that at one point, those subscriptions served a purpose.
They helped me learn.
They helped me grow.
They helped me become.

But not everything that was useful in one season is necessary in the next. Holding on to it was no longer adding value.

It was taking my time.

It was taking my energy.

It was taking my focus away from what I am now called to do.

Scripture Reminds Us

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21

I had to asked myself:

Where is my time going?
Where is my attention going?
What am I storing up?

It is important that I recognize that in this season, my treasure is not in more information. My treasure is in action.
it is in execution and it is in showing up and doing the work I have been preparing for.

Living intentionally means we don’t just declutter our homes. We must declutter our lives.

We must release what no longer serves this version of us.

We must make space – physically, mentally and spiritually, because sometimes, self-care looks like rest and sometimes, self-care looks like removing the noise so you can finally move.

Reflection

What are you still holding on to that served a past season?

Is it adding value… or adding distraction?

What might shift in your life if you gave yourself permission to do less consuming – and more doing?

Less noise. More clarity.
Less consumption. More creation.
Less distraction. More purpose.

Until next Saturday!

Love, Talisha ❤️

  2. This is so timely Talisha. I love the idea of releasing what no longer serves this ‘version’ of us! And yes…less consumption and more creation/action. I’m getting there I think..but it’s great to have encouragement packaged this way. Thank you.

    1. Hi Kathryn,
I really appreciate your feedback! So happy to add to this wonderful journey you are on.
