The Things That Make You Come Alive

Over the past two weeks, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about travel.

Not because I was planning a vacation for myself.

But because I’ve been preparing information for three upcoming trips:

A family trip next month. Our retreat in St. Vincent later this year. And our European retreat adventure next year.

As I reviewed itineraries, shared details, answered questions, and looked through photos from past travels, I found myself smiling…. Again and again.

Beyond a doubt, I must admit that travel is one of the things that makes me come alive.

I love the anticipation.

The planning.

The excitement of seeing a new place.

The culture.

The food.

The conversations.

The memories.

I love stepping outside of my routine and being reminded of how big and beautiful God’s world truly is.

And perhaps most importantly, I love the way travel makes me feel.

Curious. Present. Grateful. Alive.

As I reflected on this, I thought about something I’ll be discussing this month with the ladies in my mentorship community: The Power of Play.

It is clear that somewhere along the way, many of us stopped paying attention to joy.

We became responsible, productive, busy and efficient.

And while those things have their place, they are not enough on their own.

Self-care is not only about managing stress, it is also about creating joy.

It is about making space for the things that energize us, inspire us, and reconnect us with ourselves.

The things that make us come alive.

For me, travel is one of those things.

For someone else, it may be:

  • Reading
  • Gardening
  • Painting
  • Hiking
  • Dancing
  • Cooking
  • Photography
  • Music
  • Volunteering
  • Creating
  • Exploring

The activity matters less than the feeling it creates.

Scripture Reminds Us

In John 10:10:

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

A full life is not merely one that is productive – It is one that is lived.

Fully.

Intentionally.

Joyfully.

Reflection

What activities make you lose track of time?

What makes you feel energized instead of drained?

When was the last time you did something simply because it brought you joy?

And what would happen if you gave yourself permission to do more of it?

Life is too precious to spend entirely on obligations.

Make time for the things that make you come alive.

You were created for more than survival. You were created to live fully.

Until next Saturday!

Love, Talisha ❤️

  1. Praise and worship sessions; shopping; I love Retreats where meeting people is usually exciting, and bonding needs time; playing a favorite game on my phone

    1. And I see that you consistently make room for the things that make you come alive! Well done Ms Monica!
